Collection: Management and Maintenance

The MacDonald ethnologic collection shows more than 780 original artefacts acquired by donation over the years. This collection allows us to really see how life was for the MacDonald family at that time. Around 500 original objects are on display, mostly inside the house. The barn’s shelves display a few artefacts as well.

Management, maintenance and prevention are the most efficient ways to protect a collection. Another essential tool is the Collection Catalogue with its individual description files for each object.

Maintenance also includes regular house cleaning, such as thorough dusting and seasonal cleaning. There are closing and opening procedures in autumn and spring which includes complete clean-up, dustsheets, etc.

Furthermore, a collection inventory of the house and other buildings is scrupulously done every year.
